What Is Patent Portfolio

A patent portfolio is a collection of patents owned by a single entity, such as an individual or corporation. The patents may be related or unrelated. Patent applications may also be regarded as included in a patent portfolio.

A patent portfolio may have assets or might be entirely consisting of patents covering technologies that are not in use today but are future bets. It is very difficult to identify future value and to estimate the value of such portfolios, however, there are certain measures and factors one could exploit.

(Individual) Patents confer other benefits on patentees. Patent-as-signals: patents inexpensively convey valuable information about the invention, or the firm.
